The Church of St. Catherine the Great Martyr is a metochion of the Orthodox Church of America under the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. At the club’s weekly sessions, people of different ages and walks of life get together, some possessing strong English skills, some just starting to learn. The topics of the discussions are chosen by the participants as the conversation unfolds naturally.

The rector of the church archpriest Daniil Andreyuk as a head of the Club attracted a brilliant speaker Matfey Shaheen. The young English native speaker easily switched between his native English into Russian, Church Slavonic and even Ukrainian. He quoted Gogol, demonstrated skills of Ukrainian folk songs, and mentioned his English articles at Orthochristian.com which is the English version of the famous Russian website Pravsolavie.ru

Various issues were discussed. Among them the current developments in the youth community and religious life in the United States. Participants also gave a few words about themselves to warm up, and get acquainted with one another. Seminary students took the lead in the chat, thankful for the support and tips of their English teacher as well as the launch of this useful English language project.
