Русская версия: В Николо-Угрешской семинарии состоялся международный симпозиум

Greek version: στο Νικολο-Ουγκρέσκα πνευματικό σεμινάριο πραγματοποιήθηκε το διεθνές συμπόσιο

The symposium has been held in Nicholo-Ugreshskaya seminary within the international conference "Russian-Greek Relations", which takes place from October 10 to 22, 2016, in Moscow, Athens and Thessaloniki owing to the 1000 anniversary of the Russian presence in the Mount Athos. In the beginning of the symposium the Rector of the seminary Hegumen Ioann welcomed all the participants. Then the Most Reverend George, Mitropolitan of Kitros, Katerini, and Platamon (Church of Greece), the President of the University Ecclesiastical Academy of Thessaloniki, gave his blessing to all the attendees. Rector of Orenburg seminary Hegumen Nicodemus (Shushmarchenko) arrived at the symposium and delivered the greeting message from the Most Reverend Benjamin, Metropolitan of Orenburg and Saraktash.

The partners and special guests expressed good wishes to the conference:

• Ksenia A. Klimova, Ph.D., the representative of the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology of Lomonosov Moscow State University,

• Anna A. Toropova, the representative of the MGIMO University,

• Mary Iv. Repina, the vice-chairman of the Movement "Orthodox Russia", the CEO of the Charity Foundation of Social Initiatives «People’s enterprise»,

• Mikhail Asmus, the priest, the representative of the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The session of the symposium began with the presentation of the project "Erasmus+", presented by Archpriest Gregory Stamkopulos, associate professor of the University Ecclesiastical Academy of Thessaloniki. The program "Erasmus+" is the European program which supports cooperation in the education sphere. The Nicholo-Ugreshskaya Seminary and the University Ecclesiastical Academy of Thessaloniki have joined the program and are now able to organize the international exchange of their students and teachers. The ceremony of signing of the cooperation agreements under the program "Erasmus+" was held within the symposium.

During the symposium the participants presented the results of their research on Russian-Greek relations: Michael Asmus, the priest (the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church), Marina S. Krutova, the Doctor of philology, the professor (Russian State Library), Irina V. Mokletsova, the Doctor of philology, the professor (Lomonosov Moscow State University). Also very illustrative historical examples of Russian-Greek cooperation were submitted by Alexey A. Kascheev (Russian State Library), Ekaterina Yu. Perova, PhD in culturology, the associate professor (Moscow State Linguistic University), Nicholas Scheglov, the priest (Nicholo-Ugreshskaya Seminary).

As a part of the symposium there was held the presentation of the book "The Athonite archive of the XX century. Papers of Russian St. Panteleimon Monastery", published by Russian Emigration Archive in 2014. The book contains rare historical materials and photos.

Within the conference valuable gifts were granted to the seminary: a book "The Athonite archive of the XX century. Papers of Russian St. Panteleimon Monastery" (Moscow-Brussels, 2014), as well as a number of copies of the book of Olga V. Sokolovskaya "Queen Olga of Greece: Under the hammer of the fate" (M., 2016). The latter book was dedicated to the granddaughter of Nicholas I the Emperor of Russia - Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna Romanova, who for many years in XIX and XX centuries was the Queen of Greece and played a huge role in the development of Russian-Greek relations. It is noteworthy that there is a street named after her in Thessaloniki, and furthermore in 2016 the monument to Queen Olga was opened in this city. In the near future the publication of this book in Greek is planned.

The symposium was concluded with the excursion to the Nikolo-Ugreshsky monastery for all participants and attendees.
