The Metropolitan of Kitrous, Katerinis and Platamonos Georgios (Georgios Chrysostomou) was born in Thessaloniki on August 3, 1964 into the family of Charalambos and Irene Chrysostomou. He was elected metropolitan on February 27, 2014 by the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece. Metropolitan Georgios was enthroned same year on March, 1. Vladika graduated from Theological and Philosophical Faculties of Aristotle University at Thessaloniki in 1986 and 1990, respectively. Further in 1989, Vladika acquired an academic degree in theology majoring in liturgical life of the church. Moreover, he has held a Doctor of Philology degree since 1994 specializing in Byzantine literature. Both were awarded at A.U.Th. Metropolitan Georgios’ educational background involves additional studying in France and Italy, too. His PhD thesis’ synopsis was published in 1997 as part of the project “European Capital of Culture Organization – Thessaloniki 1997”, entitled “Hymnographer Gerasimos Monachos Mikrainananitisa and His Sequences of the Saints of Thessaloniki. Contribution to the study of life and work”.

Vladika Georgios has been teaching at University Ecclesiastical Academy of Thessaloniki since 1995 to present; as an Academy’s professor up to 2007, as an associate professor in 2008-2012, as an regular professor since 2012. He served as a visiting Professor at the Theological School of the Orthodox University of Congo Republic and Theological Academy in Kiev, Ukraine, in 2011 and 2013, respectively. Also, he served at Nikolo-Ugreshskaya seminary, Moscow, in 2017. Metropolitan Georigios was awarded an honorary position of the President of University Ecclesiastical Academy of Thessaloniki in 2016.

In 1989, future Vladika was ordained deacon in Thessaloniki and served as a deacon for a year in the Agios Dimitrios church in the homonymous town. In 1990, ordained presbyter and served as a priest in the church of Saints Anargyroi at Thessaloniki until 1994. In 1995, transferred to the Holy Metropolia of Veroia, Naoussa and Campania, where he served as a priest in the Church of Saints Anargyroi of Veroia until election to Metropolitan. During his ministry in the parish of Saints Anargyroi of Veroia all chapels were decorated as well as many others renovations were carried out. Concurrently, he served as Protosyncellus of the Metropolia in 1995-2014.
