Hegumen Arseny (Sokolov) is a Professor of the Department of biblical studies of the Church post-graduate and doctoral studies. sts. Cyril and Methodius. His research interests include Prophetic Books of the Old Testament. In particular, father Arseny's PhD thesis is devoted to the Book of Joshua, and his doctoral dissertation is devoted to the Book of Amos. In addition, father Arseny is the representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia with the Patriarch of Antioch and All East.

Rector of the Nikolo-Ugreshskaya Seminary hegumen Ioann welcomed the honored guest, noting the importance of biblical science for seminary students, and expressed hope that his first visit will launch a series of lectures of father Arseny in our seminary. Teachers, seminarians, parishioners of the Nikolo-Ugreshskiy monastery and students of the courses "Inmost world of Orthodoxy" gathered in the assembly hall of the seminary to meet the well-known biblical scholar. Just before the meeting, the hegumen Arseny (Sokolov) was introduced to the audience by the Vice-rector for academic affairs, priest Alexy Sorokin.

At the beginning of his lecture, hegumen Arseny noted that reliance on Scripture is an essential feature of the Orthodox faith, so all Orthodox Christians are required to deepen their understanding of sacred texts on regular basis. After a brief review of the history of Israel, father Arseny showed the importance of prophetic service in the history of the Jewish people. During the lecture, the audience also learned about the different terms used in Scripture to refer to prophetic Ministry; how to explain the transition from prophetic speeches to prophetic writing; the role of prophetic schools in Israel; about the most appropriate time of preaching during Divine Liturgy and much more.

After completing the lecture, father Arseny answered numerous questions from students - about the role of the Old Testament in the life of Christians, about the chronology of certain Prophetic Books, methods of systematic study of the Old Testament, about burning topics of biblical scientific research, etc.
